The browser extension
There is an optional Chrome extension that marks glossary words on Confluence pages as people read, with no page edits.
It reads the glossary as the person using it, so it never shows anyone a term they could not already see. It is installed per person, from the Chrome Web Store, and is not required — the in-page macros and the byline panel work without it.
